Obituary of Joe Bender

Francis Joseph Bender, Jr. (known as Joe to his family and friends), 68, of St. Pete Beach, FL passed away on November 21,2023 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Joe was born on February 16,1955 in Washington, DC to Francis and Mary Epps Bender (nee Wallace). Joe moved to Tampa, FL in his early twenties. There he worked at Tampa Yacht & Country Club for several years. He moved to St. Pete Beach where he semi-retired. He became an active member of the Sylvettes, serving on the Board of Directors for several years. He resigned in February 2022 because of illness. He was also an active member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church, as well as their Men's Ministry. His faith was very evident in his daily living.

Predeceased by his parents, Joe is survived by his beloved Gloria, Wanda & Andrew Pelley, April Jenkins & Jason Thomas, and his three grandchildren; Aidan, Trevor, and Karly. "Poppa Joe's" grandkids are a dear and important part of his life. "They were his world."

Also survived by a large circle of family and friends, Joe will be forever remembered and loved. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in St. Pete Beach, FL.
