Obituary of Marie Silverman

Marie Silverman, on November 15, 2023 at the age of 92, of Sarasota formerly Clearwater, was born in Lens Pas de Callais, France. As a child survivor of the Holocaust, in April i 944, Marie and her sister, Jeannette, arrived in the United States. Placed in an orphanage, they were soon moved to foster homes in Providence RI. Marie completed high school and attended college in Providence and was reunited with her mother in 1949. Marie was active for over 50 years in her synagogue, Congregation Beth Shalom, a speaker for the Florida Holocaust Museum, Gulf Coast Jewish and Family Services, Jewish Women International and Hadassah. Marie was the daughter of the late Ignace and Rose Berkovicova, beloved wife of the late Melvin Silverman, sister of the late Jeannette Bornstein, and survived by son, Stephen, of Brasstown, NC, son, Marc and his husband, Matthew Richards-Silverman of Tampa, FL, daughter, Renee and her partner Henry Tenenbaum of Bradenton, FL, grandchildren, Daniel Darby and his partner, Ashlee Richman, of Deland, FL, Joshua Darby and his wife, Caroline of Largo, FL, and Rebekkah Gahan and her husband, Andrew of Clearwater, FL, great-granddaughter, Harrison June Silverman Darby, foster sister, Ruth Goldstein of East Providence, RI and many nieces and nephews in the Tampa Bay area, Massachusetts and Israel whom she adored. The family suggests memorials be made to Congregation Beth Shalom, Clearwater, Florida Holocaust Museum, or Holocaust Survivor Fund at Gulf Coast Jewish Family & Community Services.
