Obituary of Gerald Martin Benstock

It is with great sadness we announce the loss of Gerald “Jerry” Benstock who passed away at home after a long illness on June 30 at the age of 93.

Jerry was Chairman and CEO Of Superior Group of Companies, formerly Superior Surgical, for over 60 years. He was instrumental in growing the business and taking it public in 1968. Jerry left a strong foundation for the growth of the business even beyond his tenure.

Jerry felt fortunate to be able to give back to his community and beyond. He was a strong supporter of the Pinellas County Jewish Day School, Congregation B’nai Israel, Menorah Manor, The Jewish Federation and The Morton Plant/Mease Healthcare Foundation supporting the “Earn As You Learn” nursing scholarship program. Over the years he was on the board of UJA men’s division in New York as well as serving on the boards at Morton Plant Hospital and MarineMax.

Jerry was an avid tennis player, sailor, scuba diver and a voracious reader.

The family wants to thank the doctors and staff at the Lykes Radiation Pavillion, Morton Plant Hospital, Bob, BJ and all the caregivers for their unwavering support.

Jerry was predeceased by his wife Joan and his daughter Wendy. He is survived by his children Susie and Alan Schwartz, Michael and Margot Benstock, Peter and Tonya Benstock, 7 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
