Obituary of Sonia Roman Cohen

Beloved wife and mother, Sonia (Sonny) Cohen passed away on February 15, 2018. The daughter of the late Emanuel and Minnie Roman and the daughter-in-law of the late Jean and Rubin Cohen. Sonny and her twin, Ann Goldman, of blessed memory, were born in Beaver Falls, PA and grew up in Wheeling, WV. In her first week at The Ohio State University she met her life partner, Marvin Cohen. Through 66 years of marriage, she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother to their three daughters, Jill Cohen, Beth Cohen Raymond (Jeffrey Raymond & Grandson Seth Raymond) and Nan Cohen (Daniel Abrams). She also leaves behind her beloved pet, Teddy Bear to comfort Marvin.Sonny was a dear friend to many. She was an avid golfer, having achieved four holes-in-one. She enjoyed bridge and mahj jong and almost any outing that brought friends and family together. Up until her 87th year, she was out there in the community as a volunteer. She held numerous roles both at the Jewish Federation of Toledo and the Toledo Chapter of Hadassah. She also was President of Temple Shomer Emunim Sisterhood. She studied and became a Docent at The Toledo Museum of Art. After her move to Sarasota, she became involved in the Southeastern Guide Dogs and as a volunteer for the 2016 Presidential Campaign. A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, February 18th at 2:00pm at Temple Emanu-El, 151 South McIntosh Road, Sarasota, Florida. In Lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Temple Emanu-El or Southeastern Guide Dogs or the charity of your choice. Hebrew Memorial Funeral Services, Sarasota / Manatee is serving the family.
