Obituary of Sandra Tirzah Laidlaw Evans

Sandra Tirzah Laidlaw Evans passed away peacefully on Friday, December 15, 2018 with family, friends, and Rabbi Shefrin beside her. She was born on November 4, 1949 in Elmira, NY. She married David Evans on December 19, 1969 in Elmira, NY. Sandra and David were both elementary teachers for 34+ years in the Springville, NY school district where Sandra was also a counselor. Sandra and David both achieved “Teacher of the Year”. Sandra held three masters degrees—Masters in Education, NYS Mental Health, and NYS Private Mental Health. Sandra was a school psychologist for Springville Elementary School. She had the unique opportunity to study Rational Emotive Therapy under its founder Albert Ellis in New York City. She also had her own private counseling service in Springville, NY as well as a photography studio for many years. Sandra was an active member of Temple Emanu-el in Sarasota, FL where she sang in the Temple Chorus. She also sang in the Sarasota Jewish Chorale and Sweet Adelines and was a former member of the Lake Effect Chorus of WNY. Sandra and David were extensive world travelers having been to Brazil, Panama, Puerto Rico, Israel, Guatemala, El Salvador, Cuba, Africa, Britain, Ireland, Scotland, Portugal, Spain, and France to name a few. Sandra is a past member of Temple Beth El, North Port and is a current member of Temple Emanu-el, Sarasota. Sandra Evans is survived by her husband of 49 years, her son Jeremy Evans and daughter Rhamyn Ireland; Sisters Linda Moss, Yvonne Suttell, Darlene Burris, and Beverly Canamucio, Brothers-in law Gary Evans, Harry Suttell, and Anthony Canamucio; Nieces Meredith Evans, Amanda Piroue, Gabrielle Canamucio, Alexa Canamucio, Stacey Carey, Kelli Kropf, Katie, Page, and Allison Hinsey; Nephews Jake Moss, Asa Moss, Jonathan Moss, Andrew Piroue, Brian LeBaron, Tim Monks and Scott Card, Grandchildren Zane Evans, Elizah Evans, Zaryan Evans, Xander Ireland, and Ada Jones Evans Graveside services will be 11:30 AM Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Road 72, Sarasota FL 34241. Donations to the Sarasota Jewish Chorale in Sandra’s name will be gratefully accepted. Hebrew Memorial Funeral Services, Sarasota / Manatee is serving the family.
