Obituary of Richard Zirlen

Richard Marc Zirlen passed away suddenly August 7, 2017. He was born August 31, 1964 in New Haven, Connecticut. He is survived by his mother Adrienne Rogovin, her husband Harold Rogovin of Sarasota, Florida, his brothers, David Zirlen and his wife Susan of Old Lyme, Connecticut and Bruce Zirlen of Beijing, China, as well as his niece Rachel Zirlen of Boston Massachusetts, nephew Nathan Zirlen of Boulder, Colorado and a stepbrother Josh Rogovin and his family of Sarasota, Florida. He was predeceased by his father Robert Zirlen and the love of his life his wife Teresa McBride Zirlen. A graduate of Hamden High School in Hamden, Connecticut and the University of Rhode Island with a BA and MA in accounting. He spent his junior year studying abroad at the London School of Economics and traveling through Europe and Israel. He had a very broad career as a Certified Public Accountant working in Stamford, San Francisco, Miami, the Cayman Islands, with numerous companies including Deloitte and Touche, the Federal Reserve Bank and as a CFO at publicly traded companies. Rich had a zest for life enjoying the music of the Grateful Dead. He almost always had his “hippie” beads under his suit and tie. He rode his motorcycle from California to Alaska camping across the country and then back to Connecticut. He liked skiing, diving, snorkeling, rafting, kayaking, fishing, and attending concerts. A memorial service will be held at Temple Sinai, 4631 S. Lockwood Ridge Rd, Sarasota, Florida on Thursday, August 10th at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to The Brain & Behavior Research Foundation, 90 Park Avenue, 16th Floor New York, NY 10016 or the American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Ave. Dallas, TX 75231.
