Obituary of Michael Peretz

Michael Peretz 76 of Sarasota passed away peacefully at home on February 3, after a courageous battle with cancer. Michael was proudly born in The Bronx, and raised in Yonkers, NY. He was the son of the late Julius and Beatrice (Sims) Peretz. Michael leaves his loving and devoted wife of almost 34 years, Gloria, daughter Jacqueline Peretz, son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Alyssa Peretz, brother, Barry (Susan) Peretz, step-daughters, Amy Gray and Lisa Grossman, in-laws Martin and Ellen Fliegelman and Robert and Margaret Fliegelman. He was a devoted father and proud grandfather to seven wonderful grandchildren, Rachel and Daniel Holladay, Abigail, Emma and Ethan Peretz, Miles Ortmeyer and Alana Brader. After graduating from Nichols College in Massachusetts, Michael developed a career that spanned decades in the Office Furniture business in the NY metropolitan area, both on the manufacturer's and dealer's sides. He was a consummate salesman, known and respected by many in the industry. For his second career, Michael and Gloria owned retail clothing stores in Chatham and Orleans, MA for over 15 years. There, Michael's natural salesmanship made the stores popular and successful. In 2010, they retired to Sarasota to join their many friends and enjoy life together. His love and knowledge of cars made Michael the go-to person before anyone purchased a car, and he would tailor his suggestions to each of his friends. Michael was part of the bike-riding "Amigos" of the Meadows for many years, before his illness. He was also known to enjoy a good cigar with his buddies out on the lanai. He was a special man to all who knew and loved him, for his kindness and caring nature. The most important things in his life were his children, grandchildren, and many wonderful friends, both in Sarasota and in Cape Cod, NJ, NY and everywhere that Michael and Gloria lived. Many thanks to the Aides at Granny Nannies Agency who cared so kindly for Michael at home, and the Tidewell Hospice professionals.
