Obituary of Derin Hampton

Derin Hampton, 46, of Sarasota, surrounded by family and friends, peacefully passed on Sunday, September 24th 2017 after a fiercely heroic battle with cholangiocarcinoma. A native of Fort Lauderdale, he attended USF where he graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. His true passing grade was realized when he met and fell in love with Eileen Pokotilow, his future wife. A man who wore many hats, his strengths are reflected in his ability to establish reliable foundations. While working at NASA, he created the very platforms that allow us to reach for the stars. Ever the handy-man, his real style shone through with a penchant for creating lavish designer homes but he had a true passion for all things "fishing". Whether it was morning, afternoon or evening, on the beach, a dock or a boat, he had a special rod and bait for the occasion. This enthusiasm for catching the fish was equal to his enjoyment for making it into a meal and sharing it with loved ones. He discovered a talent for gardening that followed the same path of sharing what he grew and bringing the people he knew together. That was his gift and that's what he shared with all who knew him. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Eileen; son, Hunter; and daughter, Sydney, all of Sarasota. He leaves a brother, Braden (Tatia), of Canon City, Colorado; and mother, Clarice, of Fort Lauderdale. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 am on Wednesday, September 27th, 2017 at Temple Beth Sholom Cemetery, 901 Circus Blvd. Sarasota, FL 34232. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Hebrew Memorial Funeral Services, Sarasota / Manatee is serving the family. Service Information
